How selection works
The editors choose from the published record: MICHELIN Guide Keys and listings, the World's 50 Best Hotels, guidebooks, travel and design press, and the hotels' own information. Each edition holds eight hotels, ranked. A hotel joins a full edition only when another leaves. Hotels cannot apply or pay.
Disclosure policy
A stay is paid at the public rate unless it is labelled as hosted. Every hosted night is labelled on the hotel's page, with the dates. A hosted night never guarantees a place or coverage. We check facts with the hotel before publishing and offer no copy approval.
What a featured hotel gets
- A ranked place in its city's edition and a page of its own.
- A Book direct link to the hotel's own website, and a map link. We take no commission and use no affiliate links.
- A short announcement to share, in English, and in Japanese for hotels in Japan.
- A line in the letter when it joins a list.
