Swedish studio Claesson Koivisto Rune renovated the former Daiichi Bank annex in Kabutocho, the old financial district. Its independent food and drink includes a coffee roaster and a beer hall.

A rooftop pool at the edge of Yoyogi Park
Norm Architects worked with Keiji Ashizawa Design on the 25 rooms. The hotel is Japanese-operated and independent of the chains.

The first TRUNK, fifteen rooms with a lobby the neighbourhood uses
Opened in 2017, it started Tokyo's 'socialising' boutique wave. A lobby bar and a wedding chapel share the building with the rooms off Cat Street.

An onsen ryokan with a garden, ten minutes from Shimokitazawa
Hot-spring water comes by truck from Hakone. UDS runs the 35 rooms and a tea salon in a residential corner of Setagaya.

Sixty suites beside the 1935 Hyakudan Kaidan, the 'hundred-step staircase'
The site dates to 1928, and the Showa-era decorative interiors of the Hyakudan Kaidan are next door. It was rebranded under LXR in 2026.
